Bullet cameras have fast become one of the most popular and versatile of all surveillance cameras. Smaller than traditional security cameras, bullet cameras are for installation in outdoor and indoor applications. Many feature infrared capabilities for night vision to prevent intruders from entering homes, businesses, schools and dozens of other high-risk security environments.

Always the innovator, Toshiba is now providing it customers a full line of bullet cameras to choose from by adding both analog and IP network cameras.

On the IP side, there is the new Toshiba IK-WB70A. This outdoor IP network bullet camera has a rugged weatherproof IP66-rated housing that protects it from rain, dust and extreme environments. By integrating weatherproofing, the IK-WB70A is a complete network video solution that operates without the need for additional accessories. It comes equipped with day-night imaging and IR illuminators that extend visibility up to 49-feet in complete darkness, as well as a wide dynamic range CMOS 1/3.3-inch sensor to cope with high-contrast lighting conditions.

Up to ten authorized viewers can access the camera’s live video feeds simultaneously to extend monitoring capability, with or without connecting to a PC. That’s because the IK-WB70A is one of the first surveillance cameras to support 3GPP Mobile Surveillance, enabling the remote viewing of video on compatible Internet-ready phones or PDAs. The camera streams HTTPS encrypted video at 30 frames-per-second at resolutions as high as 640 x 480.

For analog camera needs, Toshiba has the new IK-7100A Series of day/night color bullet cameras. The two cameras in the series have identical feature-sets except for lenses. The IK-7100A-3.6 has a 3.6mm lens for a wider sight range, while the IK-7100A-8 has a 8.0mm lens for mid-range applications. Both offer a powerful combination of infrared LEDs and Day/Night functionality with high resolution 480 TVL to maximize performance in exceptional low light. In addition, Digital Signal Processing was incorporated into the cameras to reduce the degradation of images in lower light.

Boasting a weather-resistant IP66 rated metal housing, the new IK-7100A cameras are purpose-engineered for outdoor video security, although they are equally effective indoors. Hardened metal construction of the housing resists corrosion, bad weather and vandalism, while 16 long-range, high-intensity infrared LEDs enhance the performance of the camera in dark conditions where object detection and subject recognition is critical. The 850nm LEDs are invisible to the human eye yet illuminate a clear image at over 30 feet in total darkness.

IRVINE, CA, May 15, 2009 – Toshiba Surveillance & IP Network Video, a business unit of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the availability of its next generation of Internet-based network video recorders (NVR). With a feature-set highlighted by a space-saving 3U chassis and support for 32 IP cameras, the new Toshiba IPS Series makes it amazingly simple to create a networked video surveillance environment by delivering the ease-of-use and reliability that marks all Toshiba products.Toshiba IPS Series NVRs are fully compatible with Toshiba IP network cameras and those of other leading manufacturers including AXIS®, Sony® and Panasonic®.

Cameras are recorded at their encoded resolution, including super high-resolution megapixel cameras, without degradation in video quality. On-board software provides security administrators with simultaneous recording, playback and remote streaming of live video images retrievable on their remote or local PC, along with comprehensive search capabilities of archives. Microsoft® Windows® XP is embedded as the operating system.

To save space for other critical peripherals Toshiba IPS Series NVRs feature a sleek, black 3U chassis (5.8″ x 17.25″ x 19.5″) that mounts into any standard rack. In addition to a 32-channel version, IPR Series NVRs are available in 16- and 8-channel versions with optional 500 GB, 1TB or 2TB hard-drive storage. Equipped with the Intel® Core™ 2 Quad 2 GHz processor, IPS NVRs efficiently handle multiple megapixel cameras simultaneously, enabling the crystal-clear recording of these bandwidth-demanding devices.

The IPS is exceptionally flexible by design. It lets users define settings on a per camera basis including their resolution, motion detection, alarm recording, and frames-per-second (fps) up to 30 fps per camera. Video can be recorded from both local and global cameras via the Internet, and is stored using efficient MJPEG compression to optimize video storage space. In addition, cameras featuring PAN/TILT/ZOOM can be remotely controllable by the IPS, bringing added versatility throughout the surveillance operation.

“With simplified user setup, the ability to coexist with a variety of other network devices, and powerful processing speeds, our new IPS delivers a real-time solution that makes it possible for locations as diverse as shopping centers or single-family homes to receive the benefits of network video surveillance,” said Sergio Collazo, Director of Sales and Marketing, Toshiba Surveillance & IP Network Video. “IPS technology is a natural complement to our popular networking cameras for capturing, recording and distributing IP surveillance video.”

By most accounts, this year’s ISC West Show held at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas was a success. While the total number of visitors appears to be down over previous years, this was compensated by the quality of attendees. As one industry observer put it: “fewer pen collectors and more interested participants”.

Canadians were surprisingly quite well represented in terms of numbers, resulting in several key meetings and presentations.

Several of our Manufacturer partners were on hand to exhibit their latest products and solutions, among them:

- AFI (American Fibertek)

AFI, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, introduced the latest products within their V’nes IP Network Solutions which are specially designed for increased network bandwidth and traffic required by video based IP security systems.

New products include the Commander C10-PoE IP Communications Center that provides a fully managed 10 port network switch, environmental sensing, RS 232 and RS 485 bidirectional communication ports, interactive alarm in and auxiliary network controlled contacts, and data and video stream management. It also provides 8 port 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) with full power available at each port with no power sharing.

Also on display was the latest version of AFI’s Pilot Enerprise Video Management Solution, a complete, intergrated management software system for video, audio, data, environmental sensors and network switches. Pilot’s unique methods for handling data and video assures fast response search times and the ability to interact with data platforms from a majority of access control and other data generating sources. Video sources can be MJPEG, MPEG-4, H.263 and H.264.

- Channel Vision

Channel Vision demonstrated several new and recently introduced products. One notable introduction was a Solar Power Supply board designed to power most 12VDC cameras, including motorized PTZ (Pan, Tilt Zoom) cameras.

Visitors to the booth were also invited to sign up for Channel Vision’s “Complete Install” Contest and a chance to WIN a (7) night stay for two~eight (2~8) in a Luxury Beach Vacation Private Estate located on Kauai, Hawaii.

- Napco Security

Napco had several new products on display. A popular attraction remains its iSeeVideo Plug & Play Remote Video products designed to generate recurring revenue by offering a variety of new video services. The recently introduced indoor Pan & Tilt Camera and Single Channel Gateway got a lot of attention from many dealers. A few lucky customers got a sneak peak at the upcoming IVR which will allow dealers to offer new recording options to their iSeeVideo customers

- Toshiba Security Products

Toshiba Security had several new products on display, including the latest release of its Surveillix Digital Recording Solution as well as recently introduced IK-WD03A mini-dome and IK-7100 Bullet cameras. Toshiba also announced its new ProfitMax™ Reseller Program, a comprehensive system of tiered support services and loyalty program offered to selected participating dealers.

In conclusion, while there’s lots of talk about the Economy being down, one really couldn’t tell while walking the show at ISC West this year!
